What to expect …
Do I need to be artistic ?
To do art therapy, you do not need to be artistic but you do need to be open to being creative. Often we cannot express ourselves, or say what is troubling us. We are all designed to be creative in some way. Creativity unlocks trapped memories and allows us to process them in a safe way.
What does a session look like?
Sessions are usually held in our art studios. Sessions are private and are uninterrupted. Individual sessions are just you and the therapist, whereas group sessions may have up to 6 people. Each session starts with a check-in to see how you are. Then we either have a theme for art making or a free choice for the session. You choose what you want to work with and you get plenty of time to be creative. Then we talk about what you have made. ITR sessions are more structured and will be explained.
What do I need to bring?
You don’t need to bring anything as all materials are provided but you might choose to bring something if you wish. Wearing comfortable clothes is helpful. At times it can be messy so you may want to consider this. For outside art therapy a waterproof coat may be helpful.
What sort of things do you create?
There are examples in the gallery section for you to see although these are not from actual clients as all work is confidential.
